The nearest airport is Chania (Souda) which is about 45 minutes drive and receives charter flights from the UK every Tuesday in the summer season.
Iraklion (or "Heraklion") is about 90 minutes away, and gets UK charters on a variety of days in season.
Either of these airports can also be reached from the UK every week of the year by travelling via Athens - which is neither as expensive nor as awkward as you might think. We use Olympic Airlines for this and have an excellent UK contact who we can put you in touch with.
Alternatively you can travel to Athens via BA or Easyjet and then transfer to Crete using Olympic or local carrier Aegean Airways.

Alternatively you may wish to enhance your mobility during all, or part, of your stay by hiring a car. This can meet you at the airport and be dropped off there at the end of your holiday, or can be picked up in nearby Almerida or Kalives, as you choose.
